Collectively, around 200 years of specialist endodontic experience

The Endodontic Group had its beginnings in 1980, when Dr Gilbert Shearer OAM moved from a general practice in Toowong to the current premises in Wickham Terrace and began to practice exclusively in endodontics.

In 1984 John McNamara joined Gilbert’s practice after completing his postgraduate training at the University of Adelaide. In 1991 William Bowles completed his postgraduate training at the University of Queensland and joined the group, although has now retired. Over time they were joined by Ross Applegarth (1993 - now retired), Matthew Gentner (1995), and Timothy Smith (1999) who all completed their postgraduate training at the University of Queensland, as well as Jonathan Moore in 2009 (University of Melbourne), Bayardo Martell in 2002 (Temple University in Philadelphia) and Margot Anderson in 2007 (Melbourne). In 2024, Kush Ohri (University of Qld) and Hadeel Abdelhamid (Griffith University) joined the team. At different times, the practice has also been joined by Karen Wong, Ward Rutley, Quan Ho, Laureen Roh & David Yong.

We currently enjoy a busy practice with our endodontists supported by more than 45 team members. We practice across southeast Queensland with six locations – Aspley, Brisbane, Indooroopilly, Ipswich, Maroochydore and Robina – which are all equipped with the most advanced technology.

Gilbert Shearer is now in busy retirement, reducing his golf handicap and doting on his grandchildren. It’s our vision to continue to expand the Endodontic Group, improve our services, and maintain our standing as Queensland’s leading endodontic practice.
